"The world's fastest full-frame zoom lens announced"
Sigma today announced the 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art, the new lens for full-frame cameras. Let's discover all the features and the price of the new arrival from Sigma.
Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art: Technical Specifications
The manufacturer's new lens has a focal length that makes it perfect for landscape photography and more, with an aperture ranging from f/1.8 to f/16, thanks to a diaphragm composed of 11 rounded blades. That's right, today SIGMA pushes beyond the boundaries of the usual f/2.8 zoom lenses and announces a new modern mirrorless zoom lens with a constant f/1.8 aperture.
Internally, it is composed of 18 elements, divided into 15 groups (including 5 SLD and 3 aspherical elements). SIGMA states that the lens suppresses aberrations (with particular attention to axial chromatic aberration) and provides characteristics similar to SIGMA's f/1.4 DG DN fixed focal length lenses.
The minimum focusing distance is 30cm across the entire zoom range, and its dimensions are 87.8 x 151.4mm for L-mount and 87.8 x 153.4mm for Sony E-mount, with a total weight of 960 grams and 950 grams respectively. The maximum magnification ratio is 1:4 at 45mm, while the diameter for screw-in photographic filters on the front lens is 82 mm.
SIGMA states that in addition to photography, the lens is also suitable for video work. The zoom and focus mechanisms are completely internal, which results in two advantages: first, the lens will not drastically change balance when the focal length is varied, so it does not need to be rebalanced on a gimbal; second, it helps the lens to resist dust and splashes.
According to SIGMA, the optical design of the lens minimizes focus breathing, and we also find a physical aperture ring that can be locked and which also features a click/de-click switch.
The focus ring is electronic (fly-by-wire), but for a better manual focusing experience, the lens offers linear operation with an adjustable rotation angle between 90° and 720°. This, however, is only available with compatible L-mount cameras.
Autofocus is handled by the HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) system, which is fast, effective, and silent.
