Sigma BF: la mirrorless full frame minimalista

Roberto Colombo, 24th February 2025

“For its new full-frame mirrorless camera, Sigma aims for maximum minimalism: the Sigma BF even does without a memory card slot and has buttons reduced to a minimum. It integrates a 24.6-megapixel backlit BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with phase detection autofocus and records 6K video.”

When talking about camera bodies, Sigma has always played outside the box, first with DSLRs equipped with layered Foveon sensors, and then, upon entering the mirrorless world, with its peculiar Sigma fp cameras, which were minimalist in size.

Sigma BF: The Minimalist Mirrorless Camera

Now, the Japanese manufacturer takes an even further step in the direction of essentiality with the presentation of its new Sigma BF, which debuts with a very distinctive and truly super minimalist design. Naturally based on the L-Mount, of which Sigma is a consortium member along with Leica and Panasonic, the new Sigma BF integrates a 24.6-megapixel backlit BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with phase detection autofocus.

Lacking a viewfinder, it offers only the shutter button on the top part, and on the back, a 4-way clickable joystick and three buttons (Play, Menu, Power), all with haptic feedback, next to a fixed 3.2" touch-sensitive LCD display. The camera also does without a memory card slot, providing 230 GB of internal storage, capable of storing 14,000 JPEGs, 4,300 RAW files, and 2.5 hours of footage recorded at maximum resolution. The USB-C 3.2 10 Gbps port is then used to access images and videos from a PC. The camera, with the BP-81 battery, weighs 446 grams.

Speaking of video, the camera can record in 6K (6016 x 3384 pixel) and 4K 24/25/30p, also with the L-Log profile, and push up to 120 fps in Full HD.

The sensor can shoot with sensitivities ranging between 100 e 102.400 ISO with four expansion steps down to ISO 6. The camera offers only an electronic shutter, with shutter speeds up to 1/25.600s. In terms of continuous shooting, it can reach 8 fps.

Available in black or silver, it will also be accompanied by silver versions of the Sigma I Series lenses.

While awaiting the official price for Italy, the international price is set at $1,999$.

On the photography side, Sigma introduces a significant 13 Color Mode, following the current trend of widespread use of LUTs in photography, even at the shooting stage.
