Sigma 50mm F1.2 DG DN Art: nuovo 'normale' super luminoso

“This new high-aperture 'normal' lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras promises outstanding performance on all fronts, from sharpness at maximum aperture to autofocus speed.”

In recent years, the evolution of optics has been very rapid, and we quickly reached a point where pairings that once caused a sensation are now considered normal. Today, Sigma presents a new lens that will whet the appetite of more than a few enthusiasts: the Sigma 50mm F1.2 DG DN Art.

Sigma 50mm F1.2 DG DN Art: Bright Normal

This new high-aperture 'normal' lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras promises outstanding performance on all fronts. The optical design of 17 elements in 12 groups (including 4 aspherical elements) is engineered to minimize aberrations and offer great sharpness even at maximum aperture, but also to provide a very pleasing bokeh, free from the onion-ring or double-line effect that often hints at the presence of aspherical lenses.

The integration of a 13-bladed diaphragm, a first for Sigma, also contributes to the pleasantness of the bokeh. The Japanese engineers have also worked to minimize focus breathing, making the lens a good alternative in the video field as well.

In this regard, on the lens barrel, we find a switch that allows the user to eliminate the 'click' of the aperture ring, in addition to a lock that prevents its unwanted operation.

Dual HLA

Among the new features is the dual HLA focusing motor, which moves two lens groups in unison. The floating mechanism allows for both excellent performance in terms of focusing speed and maximum containment of the lens's dimensions.

Sigma has indeed managed to keep the overall size, and especially the weight, to a minimum, stopping the scale needle at 745 grams, earning it the title of the lightest lens in its class. This is partly due to the extensive use of TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) material, a type of polycarbonate with a thermal expansion rate similar to that of aluminum.

Among the other technical specifications, we find a minimum focusing distance of 40 cm, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.2, a filter thread diameter of 72 mm, and external dimensions of 81.0 mm x 108.8 mm.

The new SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN Art will be available starting next April 18th in two versions, with L-Mount (for Sigma, Panasonic, and Leica full-frame mirrorless cameras) and Sony E-Mount.
